Should I protect the  Red Cedar?

Without protection, Red Cedar will take on a silvery gray tint and will tend to crack slightly, but this does not affect its structure and solidity. This is an aesthetic choice.

To let cedar age naturally, you will need to be patient. In full sun, it will take a few years for the cedar to take on a uniform color. It is not recommended to leave natural furniture in a damp place.

What to protect with?

We recommend that you use a water-repellent stain on the wood to protect against water as well as ultraviolet rays.

We suggest Cetol 01 water repellent dye  natural (#078) for red cedar and Cétol 01 Teck (#085) for white cedar. In this way you can arrange the furniture of the two essences because their colors will be  similar. We hold  this dye in store. The majority of dyed furniture on the site is dyed with this product.

There are several options available on the market, be careful to choose the right product. Cétol is a Sico product, otherwise the Sansin company makes good products for Cedar and is water-based.

What is the difference between White Cedar and Red Cedar

Red Cedar is a species of wood found in Western Canada, mainly in British Columbia. When it comes to exterior wood, this is the best option. The good smell that emanates from Red Cedar comes from its natural oils which are an integral part of the wood. In addition to the pleasant smell, the oil contained in the wood gives it remarkable properties. The wood is rot-proof, which means  say very resistant to mold and fungi. Insects don't care either! It is for this reason that you can leave it natural while keeping your head at ease.

White Cedar is grown in eastern Canada, in other  in Quebec and New Brunswick. Since these are smaller trees, there are more knots in the wood.  It is weather resistant but contains fewer natural oils than Red Cedar. We recommend protecting it with dye.

Do I need to prepare the surfaces following my purchase?

No!
When your order arrives at home, your furniture is ready to be stained. The wood is dry and a sanding has already been done to prepare the surfaces to receive the stain. When receiving your furniture, we advise you to protect it from the sun and rain to prevent the wood from changing its appearance. Follow the application guidelines of the product you have chosen. Process as soon as possible after receiving your order
